My 64th Independence Day Speech

Vandee Maataram, Vandee Maataram, Vandee Maataram
Good morning one and all, I am Sudheeksha from 7th. I am proud to be here to share and celebrate this great occasion i.e our 64th Independence Day with all of you.

At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world slept, India woke to life and freedom. The Independence Day of our country is a moment of pride and glory. On this special occasion, rich tributes are paid to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives and fought to free their motherland from the clutches of the oppressors - British who ruled the country.

The British, had initially come for trade but gradually took over the total administration of the country. On 3 June 1947, Viscount Lord Mountbatten of Burma, the last British Governor-General of India, announced the partitioning of the British Indian Empire into India and Pakistan, under the provisions of the Indian Independence Act 1947. This was preceded by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's famous speech titled Tryst with Destiny.

The Indian Rebellion of 1857 began as a mutiny of sepoys of the British East India Company's army on 10 May 1857, in the town of Meerut, and soon erupted into other mutinies and civilian rebellions. For 90 years, many of the Indians united and sacrificed their lives for this occasion, our nation and our people and I request all of you pay the great tribute for each and every freedom fighter.

Today, on this 64th Independence day I proudly say that our country with an enormous plurality in language, religion, culture and ethnicity is emerged as the sixth powerful country in the world. India is a country of more than one billion people. One out of every six human beings in the world lives in India. 22 Indian languages are listed in our Constitution and more than 1,600 dialects are spoken in India. Every religion has its followers in India. From the mountains of Kashmir to the waters of Kanyakumari and from the deserts of Rajasthan to the forests of the North-East, India celebrate their varied cultures, festivals and religions and they effortlessly unite to make India a great nation.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity.
